"Buddhist Canon Foundation" is a fully non-profit organization and all work is carried out by volunteers free of charge.
This is our gift to all humanity.
Our task is to provide access to the Buddhist canons
- in a format convenient for reading;
- completely free of charge;
- with translations into different languages, including the original;
- without copyright restrictions;
- with an open license and free distribution in any form;
- not belonging to any one community, tradition, or school;
- without unnecessary extra materials, only the canons of all traditions;
- accessible to people across the whole planet.
Why a web version rather than a printed or electronic book?
- it allows edits to translations to be made in a few clicks for improvement;
- it is convenient to show disputed translation points;
- it is easier to manage language switching and comments to the texts;
- it enables collaboration by a large team;
- it avoids reprinting problems and keeps access free for everyone, since digital publication has no printing costs;
- it allows new materials and translations to be added as they are completed.
