Our task is to provide access to the Buddhist canons

• in a format convenient for reading;
• completely free of charge;
• with translations into different languages, including the original;
• without copyright restrictions;
• with an open license and free distribution in any form;
• not belonging to any one community, tradition, or school;
• without unnecessary extra materials, only the canons of all traditions;
• accessible to people across the whole planet.

Why a web version rather than a printed or electronic book?

• it allows edits to translations to be made in a few clicks for improvement;
• it is convenient to show disputed translation points;
• it is easier to manage language switching and comments to the texts;
• it enables collaboration by a large team;
• it avoids reprinting problems and keeps access free for everyone, since digital publication has no printing costs;
• it allows new materials and translations to be added as they are completed.
